Search engine marketing, also known as SEM, is the name that is used when tools are utilized to make a website more visible to the search engines which then put them higher up in the rankings when a person searches for related products or services. There are a number of tools that can be used for this but the range included in SEM depends on who you ask. Some will refer to the tools as being anything from search engine optimization (SEO), pay-per-click advertisements (PPC), banner advertisements, email marketing, social media networking as well as purchasing the search listings.
